There is no specific age for bariatric surgery, provided that the requirements for the surgery are met, including body mass (weight) and medical problems that do not pose a developmental threat to the patient’s ability to fully understand the procedure and the regimen followed before and after surgery, and that they have proper consent. This includes children and the elderly.

A comprehensive medical assessment is made from the first visit to the clinic before surgery. Based on that, the appropriate surgery for the woman can be chosen from the inside out. The factors that determine the appropriate surgical approach are: Is the woman suffering from diabetes or reflux? Is the woman suffering from diabetes or has she had it for a long time? How well has she responded to medication? What is her blood sugar level?

Several factors have led to bariatric surgery being considered relatively safe, such as its increasing prevalence and the development of surgical instruments.
